District conference in Hamburg

This past weekend (Nov 20-22) our Club President Kelly Brown and VP of Education Amy S. Hamilton were able to represent the Stuttgart International Club at the District 59 Conference held in Hamburg.

First, to cover business, our club did not support the new incentive programm, feeling the incentive program gives advantages to the stronger clubs and the weaker clubs with fewer members will continue to fall behind.

The competition in Hamburg was amazing and the level of speakers outstanding. On Saturday night John Zimmer of Zurich made a sweep and was first place in both the English Table Topics and English Humerous Speech contest (which he won for the second year in a row).

The educationals at the conference both Saturday and Sunday were excellent and very informative.  There were a variety of topics and something for everyone.

Hamburg itself is a great city with a lot to see and do. It was fun to go around and see things like the Fish Market and St. Michaels church.

The next District Conference is 2-4 June in the Hague Netherlands – sign up early.

The conference hotel is right on the beach — it should be entertaining as well as educational.

Succesful club series: three objectives met !

Our club has reached its third of ten objectives of Toastmasters’ “Successful club series”.

These series set ten goals to benchmark how good a Toastmasters club is performing during the year. You can find a complete description of the objectives on our program page.

After having submitted our documents on time (first goal reached) and registered four new members (second goal reached), we now have registered four supplementary new members.

You can see our ten objectives and which one we have met so far on Toastmasters’ website.

As you can see, we still have a lot of work to do to become a President’s distinguished club. Hence, please let our VP education, Amy Hamilton, know if you want to do a speech and progress towards your personal goal. Moreover, don’t forget to fill in your Competent Leader manual after having taken a role during a meeting. This is critical for you to receive your Competent Leader award.

Don’t forget: the club is only as good as its members, so let’s strive together for becoming better communicators and leaders !

Independently of the successful club series: from 40 members last year, we now have reached 35 members for this year. We are on a good way to help more people than last year improving their communication and leadership skills ! Let’s keep up the good work and continue to have fun !

Christmas party

As has been done in years past, the second meeting in December for the Stuttgart International Toastmasters will be a social event. We are coming to the end of another year, and it will be a time to celebrate and enjoy each other´s company. We will have some Table Topics to liven up the evening, but no other parts of our “normal” meeting.

We would also like to continue with our “White Elephant” gift exchange. These type of gift exchanges are always a lot of fun, and most often you end up with something you like. If you don´t know what a “White Elephant” gift exchange is, come to the meeting and find out. For those who would like to participate, bring a wrapped, inexpensive gift (7-10€)  If you do not want to participate, that is ok too. We would still love to have you there.

So, plan on attending this fun-filled evening. This will be a dinner event, and we will be ordering food from the IBM Klub Restaurant. We will be meeting in our regular meeting room to accommodate as many people as possible.

See the calendar for more information

Please send an email to announce your venue so that we can make an estimate of how many people will attend and have the room arranged as best we can.

See you on December 17th !
